When there is some blockage to the arteries (coronary arteries) supplying blood to heart, it results in tension in cardiac muscle to draw more oxygen and nutrients. As a result a person suffers from pressure in the chest which is sometimes sharp and stabbing and seems similar to heart attack. You need to consult your health care provider immediately if you experience:

  • Pressure on chest along with constant dull pain
  • Pain is moving to arms legs jaws and shoulders
  • Nausea and dizziness along with profuse sweating
  • Shortness of breath.

You need to consult doctor immediately as it can be an early indication of heart attack. In time medical checkup will reduce the risk of life threatening conditions.

  • Diseases of Coronary Arteries:

Coronary arteries supply oxygenated blood to heart along with nutrients. The block in coronary arteries due to sclerosis or thrombosis results in acute pressure on heart. The condition if not treated in time can lead to heart attack. The symptoms of coronary artery blockage are shortness of breath, angina, and neck and jaw pain, constant pain particularly in left arm. The main cause of sclerosis is high cholesterol level in the blood on the other hand thrombosis is caused by smoking and diabetes.

Diseases of Coronary Arteries

  • Myocarditis:

The muscular tissue of heart is known as myocardium, inflammation of these cardiac tissues is known as Myocarditis. The disease is caused generally due to virus. The disease results in sharp stabbing pain in heart along with fever and headache, shortness of breath, swelling across joints and legs, abnormal heart beats and pulse, dizziness etc.

  • Mitral Valve Prolapse:

The bicuspid valve of heart is also known as mitral valve. It controls the flow of blood from left atrium to left ventricle before it is transported to rest of the body. The mitral valve prolapse takes place when due to any reason the mitral valve slips to the left atrium due to squeezing in left ventricle. There are no immediate symptoms of this disease but in extreme conditions some symptoms show up, like heart palpitations leading to dizziness and fainting, shortness of breath, tingling or numbness in limbs, swelling in feet and legs etc.

  • Pericarditis:

Pericardium is the protective layer around the heart, inflammation of pericardium is known as Pericarditis. There are several causes of Pericarditis such as radiation therapy, infections, traumatic injury, heart surgery, tumor, or heart attack. Common Pericarditis symptoms include chest pain accompanied by low grade fever, increased heart beat rate and irregular beats etc.

  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy:

Thickening of heart muscle is known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, as this happens the normal blood flow is disturbed and a person suffers from chest pain, shortness of breath, rapid heart palpitations, fatigue and dizziness.
